The two-day Kisan Mela began at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and the 26th Pashu Palan Mela started at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) here on Friday.
Padma Shri awardee Ram Saran Verma, a progressive farmer from Uttar Pradesh, was the chief guest at both the fairs. He expressed his concern on the need to reduce agricultural cost liabilities, increase profitability as well as the conservation of natural resources. He exhorted the farmers to emulate the farming techniques adopted by the farmers of Maharashtra, especially focusing on the cultivation of fruits and vegetables.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s Award, the CRI Pump Award and Sardarni Prakash Kaur Sraan Memorial Award were presented to progressive farmers at the PAU Kisan Mela. Also, GADVASU conferred awards on nine livestock farmers of the state at the Pashu Palan Mela.
