No clarity on SAD Sangrur candidates

In Sangrur and Malerkotla districts, the SAD has announced candidates for two Assembly seats, but on the others, there is still confusion.

In Sangrur, Gulzar Singh Gulzari is the party candidate from the Dirba seat against AAP MLA Harpal Singh Cheema. The SAD has fielded party district president Iqbal Singh Jhunda from the Amargarh seat.

On other seats, SAD candidates have been competing with each other to impress upon the party chief. Former Sangrur MLA Parkash Chand Garg has shifted to Dhuri, but there Simar Pratap Singh Barnala has already been working.

On seats like Sunam, Lehra and Malerkotla, various candidates have been trying to get the ticket by approaching senior party leaders. “Candidates on other seats will also be announced soon,” said Iqbal Singh Jhunda, Sangrur and Malerkotla units chief. Sources said ex-MLA Arvind Khanna would join the SAD and contest from Sangrur. — TNS
