Start welfare schemes for Parkash Purb: Bir Devinder

Chandigarh: Former Deputy Speaker Bir Devinder Singh said the state and the Central Government should name public welfare schemes to commemorate the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev, in adherence to the Guru’s philosophy. He said Capt Amarinder Singh and members of the Badal family were scoring political points against each other and spoiling the dignity and grace of the

Sugarcane growers paid Rs 28-crore dues 

Fazilka: Finally, the Punjab Government has cleared the due amount of Rs 28.28 crore pending towards the farmers who supplied sugarcane to Fazilka Central Cooperative Sugar Mills Ltd. DC Manpreet Singh Chhatwal and local MLA Davinder Singh Ghubaya distributed cheques among the sugarcane growers at a function held on the sugar mill premises. The farmers said the payment had been lying pending for the past more than three years. OC

Majithia defamation case adjourned till Sept 23

Ludhiana: Judicial Magistrate Etu Sodhi has adjourned the defamation case filed by former revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia against AAP party leader Sanjay Singh (Rajya Sabha MP) till September 23. No witness from Majithia]s side was present for cross examination. Majithia had alleged that the MP made a false and defamatory statement against him at a rally in Moga on September 9, 2015. It was alleged that he also launched a fallacious campaign in order to defame and discredit the complainant. Majithia had claimed that he was unnecessarily being portrayed to be involved with drug racketeers. OC

Assaulted, Dalit rights’ activist seeks strict action

Muktsar: A local Dalit rights’ activist Ashok Mahindra, who was allegedly attacked by some people on September 11 evening near his residence on Goniana Road here, on Wednesday said the cops booked two persons Soma Singh and Chhinder Singh. “I have suffered fracture in my arm.
