Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar slammed half-centuries as Bangladesh cruised to an eight-wicket win over the West Indies in the third and final ODI to take the three-match series 2-1 on Friday. Iqbal hit an unbeaten 81 while Sarkar added 80 off 81 balls to guide Bangladesh to 202/2 in 38.3 overs after Mehidy Hasan's career best 4/29 helped the home side restrict West Indies to 198/8 in 50 overs.

Sri Lanka on Friday brought back Lasith Malinga after a long hiatus as captain of its limited-over squads to lead the national team against New Zealand. Sri Lanka Cricket said the 35-year-old right-arm fast bowler was named skipper of a 17-man squad for three ODIs and one T20I.

Nadal to join Federer in 2019 Laver Cup

Spaniard Rafael Nadal will team up with perennial rival Roger Federer for the third edition of the Laver Cup in Geneva next year. The team event featuring the best of Europe against a World team will be taking place for the third time, with Nadal and Federer also teammates in the inaugural match in 2017. Team Europe non-playing captain Bjorn Borg said having Nadal and Federer was a boost for the September competition. 

“It doesn’t get much better for a captain than naming both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for the Laver Cup in Geneva,” former world number one Borg said in a statement.

Ranjit top pick in inaugural Pro Volleyball League auction    

Indian attacker Ranjit Singh emerged as the top pick in the first Pro Volleyball League auction that saw six foreign and 117 Indian players going under the hammer here on Friday. Singh was the costliest Indian player with Ahmedabad Defenders shelling out Rs 13 lakhs for him. The league, scheduled to begin from February 2 in Chennai and Kochi, will have six franchisees, namely Ahmedabad Defenders, Chennai Spartans, U Mumba Volley, Black Hawks Hyderabad and the Kochi Blue Spikers. Each of the six teams will have 12 players, including two foreign players, one Indian icon player and two Indian U-21 players. Each team will play each other once in a round-robin format and the top four teams will qualify for the semifinals.
