Blake trains his eyes on gold in Tokyo Olympics

Mumbai

Ace Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake (in pic) said he is eyeing nothing less than a gold medal in next year’s Tokyo Olympics, his last appearance at the quadrennial extravaganza. “It is going to be my last Olympics and definitely I am going for the gold,” said Blake, who already has two gold and two silver medals in the Olympics. Blake was in the city to promote the ‘Road Safety World Series’, a T20 tournament to be held in February next year.

Federer to have Swiss coin minted in his honour   

Roger Federer is to become the first living Swiss to have a coin minted in their honour, with a commemorative 20 franc ($20.06) silver piece bearing his image being issued in January. Swissmint confirmed that 55,000 of the coins, featuring Federer delivering a backhand, will be produced and will be available for pre-order from Tuesday until December 19.

ISL: NorthEast secure draw against Jamshedpur FC

NorthEast United scored a late equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw against Jamshedpur FC in their Indian Super League match. The hosts surged ahead through Sergio Castel's goal in the 28th minute. But a 90th minute equaliser from Panagiotis Triadis ensured NorthEast United's unbeaten record remained intact. The result enabled Jamshedpur to remain on the second spot on the table, while NorthEast are now fourth with 10 points in their kitty.

Doncic, Mavs halt LA Lakers’ winning streak

Luka Doncic had 27 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds, and the visiting Dallas Mavericks snapped the Los Angeles Lakers’ 10-game winning streak with a 114-100 victory on Sunday. Mavericks captured their seventh win in eight games. They are 7-2 on the road. Meanwhile, Jimmy Butler made the go-ahead free throws with 29.7 seconds remaining as Miami closed out the game with a 14-3 run to win at Brooklyn.

Leclerc keeps UAE third place, Ferrari fined ^50,000     

Charles Leclerc retained his podium finish in Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after a post-race stewards investigation into a fuel infringement, but his Ferrari team were fined ^50,000. His Ferrari car was checked in the pit lane before the race and found to have infringed the strict fuel regulations.

Napoli crisis intensifies with 2-1 defeat to Bologna     

Napoli’s winless run stretched to eight games in all competitions with a 2-1 defeat at home to Bologna on Sunday, leaving last season’s runners-up at seventh. Lazio consolidated the third place with a 3-0 win over Udinese, while Roma moved up to fourth, after a 3-1 win at Verona. agencies
