Shillong: Pedro Manzi scored two goals and set up another to guide table-toppers Chennai City FC to a 4-2 win over hosts Shillong Lajong in the I-League here on Monday.

Pedro Manzi scored two goals and set up another to guide table-toppers Chennai City FC to a 4-2 win over hosts Shillong Lajong in the I-League here on Monday. Manzi, currently leading the I-League scoring chart with 18 goals, scored in the 78th and 90th minutes. Spaniards Sandro Rodriguez (7th) and Nestor Jesus (81st) were the other scorers for Chennai, while Kitboklang Pale (23rd) and Samuel Lyngdoh (85th) scored for the home team. Chennai consolidated their position at the top with 37 points from 17 games, five points clear of their nearest rivals East Bengal.

Women’s hockey Nationals: Railways win 

Railways defeated Madhya Pradesh 5-0 to win the senior women’s hockey National Championship title for a record sixth consecutive time here on Monday. Neha (12th, 16th minutes) and Navneet Kaur (25th, 28th) scored a brace each after Vandana Katariya (10th) handed the defending champions the lead. The title win completed the double for Railways, with the men’s team beating Punjab in the final a week ago. Haryana claimed the third spot after eking out a 3-2 win over Maharasthra earlier in the day. Sonika (6th), Rani Rampal (39th) and Deepika (49th) scored for Haryana, while Lalruatfeli (13th, 42nd) struck both the goals for Maharasthra.

Left-arm medium-pacer Komal Zanzad impressed with a three-wicket burst but Board President’s XI failed to defend their modest score of 154 and lost by two wickets against England XI in a practise game. 

Brief scores: Board President’s XI: 154 all out (Minnu Mani 28, Harleen Deol 21; Anya Shrubsole 4/30, Georgia Elwiss 2/20); England XI: 157/8 in 37.3 overs (Heather Knight 64*; Komal Zanzad 3/14, Reemalaxmi Ekka 2/24).

Goa leapfrogged Bengaluru FC to go top of the table.
