CHANDIGARH: The CBI today submitted a chargesheet in the case against officials of the District Registrar (Birth and Deaths), Sector 17, Chandigarh.

The CBI today submitted a chargesheet in the case against officials of the District Registrar (Birth and Deaths), Sector 17, Chandigarh. Raj Kumar, clerk and Vikramjeet, a Class IV employee, were arrested for allegedly demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs 5,000 on November 20.

A complaint was given by a resident of Sector 41 alleging that the father of the complainant had died on November 2. In the information which was received by the department from the cremation ground of Sector 25, the name of his grandfather was misspelt.

To correct the name and issue a new certificate, the accused were demanding Rs 5, 000. After the allegations were verified, the CBI laid a trap and the two were arrested from the office of District Registrar (Birth and Deaths) in Sector 17.

The money was handed over to Vikramjeet after which the accused was arrested. Raj Kumar was arrested on the basis of pre-trap verification recordings in which he was clearly demanding money.

During the verification of trap, the complainant tried to negotiate the amount with the accused, however, they clearly refused and said that if he was not able to give Rs 5,000, the certificate would not be issued. The hand wash test of Vikramjeet was positive.
