Amritsar, March 30

Finally, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has started recarpeting the caved-in portion of the Mall Road due to which the road has been lying closed for the last six months.

Over 400 sq yard portion of the road, near the MC Commissioner’s office, had caved in due to heavy rain on September 23. Some of the commuters had a narrow escape. MC officials had promised to reconstruct the road within one month. After jumping several deadlines, the road is finally being recarpeted now.

Residents and commuters had been facing inconvenience as the administration had diverted the traffic through the BRTS lane. The metro bus frequency was also suffering due to the diversion. The SSSS chowk has been facing routine traffic jams.

According to MC officials, the work is almost complete and it will be opened for the traffic within one or two days.
