Armyman among four held for attack on cops

TARN TARAN: The police arrested four persons in connection with Monday’s attack on cops. The accused have been identified as Ranjit Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Jovanjeet Singh and Jasbir Singh.

The police arrested four persons in connection with Monday’s attack on cops.

The accused have been identified as Ranjit Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Jovanjeet Singh and Jasbir Singh. They were produced in a court, which sent them to judicial custody till December 25. Ranjit Singh is a resident of Cheema Kalan village, 35 km from here.

He is an Army personnel and deployed at Rashtarpati Bhawan, Delhi.

ASI Nirmal Singh, Investigation Officer (IO), said the accused had blocked a road near Cheema Kalan village. Two days back the accused took a bus in their custody and blocked the road with the bus. When a police party tried to peruse them to lift blockade the accused attacked the police party.

ASI Gurbax Singh and a jawan of the Punjab Home Guard were injured in the attack. The driver of the bus was also injured in the attack.

Next morning the accused blocked the diesel multiple unit near their village. The accused were booked under Sections 307, 333, 332 of the IPC. Ten persons were booked in the case.

Accused Army personal Ranjit Singh and his wife Bhinder Kaur have been booked under Sections 279, 379, 506 of the IPC by the Sarhali police for snatching the bus.

The General Railways Police too have registered a separate case against accused Ranjit Singh and others for blocking the train.
