Bag containing cash snatched

Amritsar: An unidentified person on Monday snatched a handbag from a tourist woman near the railway station here. In her complaint to the Civil Lines police station, victim Renu Singh Kataria stated that she, along with her family members, was going to Hotel National after having a meal. When they reached the foot overbridge near the railway station, a motorcycle-borne youth came from the rear and snatched her purse. The victim said the bag contained Rs4,500, a gold necklace and important documents and fled with it. ASI Shamsher Singh, in-charge, Circuit House police post, said a case had been registered in this regard. TNS

Complaint box for women

Amritsar: The district administration on Tuesday installed a complaint box at the Child Development office here to help women file complaints related to violence against them. Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Sabarwal, who attended the event, said complaint boxes would be installed at all block-level offices. He said the boxes would be opened daily by the Child and Women Welfare Department officials and action would be taken on these complaints immediately. Sabarwal said complaints related to physical, sexual, psychological and economic harassment could be filed. He said the administration would provide medical, legal and psychological help immediately as per the needs of the complainant. TNS
