Four nabbed for stealing vehicles


Amritsar: The police have nabbed four persons for allegedly stealing vehicles. The police have recovered two tractor trolleys and a bike from their possession. Those arrested were identified as Nishan Singh, Bikram Singh, Rajbir Singh, all residents of Tarn Taran and Rajbir Singh, a resident of Bhai Manjh Road here. Islamabad SHO Anil Kumar said the accused were produced in a court and taken on police remand for further investigation. He said the suspects had stolen the recovered vehicles on the intervening night of January 13 and 14 from Bhagtanwala area here. TNS

Accused sent to judicial custody

Amritsar: Amritpal Singh of Moga, the main accused in the case of vandalising statues in the Heritage street, was on Monday produced in a court, which sent him to judicial custody. Amritpal had surrendered before the police in Chandigarh two days ago. He was sent him to two-day police remand by the court. After expiry of police custody, he has been sent judicial custody. TNS

Khalsa College gets Rs 68 Lakh

Amritsar: The Department of Science and Technology, GoI, has sanctioned Rs68 lakh research grant for Khalsa College. The grant under the Fund for Improvement of Science and Technology (FIST) Infrastructure in Higher Educational Institutions was approved after a rigorous screening, in which 253 colleges across the country participated. Out of these, 18 were finally selected for financial allocation. The results of grant allocation were announced on Monday. Dr Mehal Singh, principal of the college, said: “Out of shortlisted colleges, Khalsa College got the maximum amount, which is a matter of pride for us and speaks volumes about the infrastructure and faculty we have.” Khalsa College Governing Council secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina congratulated the college principal and staff and said the amount would be utilised in procurement of equipment, software and setting up of computer laboratories.
