Man injured in celebratory firing dies

Gurvel Singh (35) of Chuslewar village (Patti) suffered a bullet injury while attending the birthday celebrations of a child in the village. A function was organised on the birthday of a grandson of Rasal Singh here on Friday.

During the party, Rasal Singh and others started firing in the air with revolvers. A bullet hit Gurvel Singh on the head. He was rushed to a private hospital in Patti.

Later, he was referred to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar, where he succumbed to his injury today. Sub-Inspector Harsa Singh said a case under Sections 302, 148, 149 and 120-B, IPC, and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59, Arms Act, was registered against Rasal Singh, his son Mandeep Singh and Chamkaur Singh, besides five others who were yet to be identified.
