Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu organised separate review meeting with officials of the municipal town planning (MTP), civil, operation and maintenance, and street light wings here on Thursday.

While interacting with MTP officials, Rintu said whenever illegal buildings were sealed, owners often broke the same to continue with their functioning. The practice has been denting the image of the civic body. MTP officials should revisit the sealed buildings and take the strict action against the violators, he said.

The Mayor asked building branch officials to file police complaints against the errants. He also instructed the MTP officials to seize the goods being used in illegal constructions and get registered police cases against owners, developers and contractors. Rintu assured the officials to provide sufficient staff and police assistance to address their problems.

In another meeting with civil and O&M officials, the Mayor asked the officials concerned to prepare estimates of civil works, O&M and street light works for all the wards as per the demand of area councillors. The proposals will be presented in the next MC House meeting.

He instructed street light wing officials to assure that every street light functions in the city. In case of non-functional street lights in the localities and roads being managed by the AIT, PWD or Mandi Board, officials should talk to the department concerned. “Before taking over any locality from the AIT, MC officials should assure that everything is functional and up to date,” said Rintu. He also motivated the officials to enhance the MC revenue.
