Nangali carjacking cracked, 4 held

AMRITSAR: The rural police have cracked the infamous December 4 carjacking case, arresting the four armed robbers in this connection. Their kingpin, Lovejeet Singh, alias Love, of Khakh village, is yet to be arrested.

The rural police have cracked the infamous December 4 carjacking case, arresting the four armed robbers in this connection. Their kingpin, Lovejeet Singh, alias Love, of Khakh village, is yet to be arrested. Those arrested are Harmandeep Singh, alias Harman, of Khakh village, Simarjit Singh of Bhorsi Rajputan village, Pargat Singh, alias Pagga, of Kotli Surkhan, Tarn Taran, and Harmandeep Singh, alias Manna, of Bhorsi Rajputan village.

Besides the car (Hyundai Creta) snatched by them from Nangali village on December 4, the police have also seized an Etios car used in the crime, which was also snatched from Gidderbaha in June this year. This car has been used in multiple crimes, said Parampal Singh, SSP, Amritsar rural police. The police also seized two pistols and three live cartridges from them.

The SSP said the prime accused, Lovejeet, was also involved in the gang war in Goindwal in August this year. The gang war resulted in the death of four youths. His two more accomplices, Prabhjeet Singh and Robinjit Singh of Hansawala village, are also on the run. They were also involved in the gang war.

The armed accused had taken away the car from four youths near Nangali village, falling under Jandiala Guru police station, on December 4. Victim Gurdial Singh, along with his friends Balbir Singh, Gursahib Singh and Beant Singh of Nangali village, was returning from Chandigarh in his car when the accused, travelling in an Etios car, intercepted them and took away this vehicle at gunpoint. The accused also took away Rs 26,000 from Gurdial and his friends before escaping with the car.

Giving details, the SSP said the police got a tip-off that four accused were coming to Jandiala from Khadoor Sahib side following which a checkpoint was established on the main GT road T-point. During search, the police found illegal weapons from their possession. When interrogated, they admitted to snatching the car from Nangali village. They also informed the police that the car was parked at an abandoned brickkiln at Balia Manjhpur village which was recovered.

He said Harmandeep of Khakh village was facing three cases, including an attempt to murder, while Simarjit was wanted in two cases. Similarly, Harmandeep of Bhorsi Rajputan were facing two and one criminal cases, respectively.

Lovejeet, who now resides in Firangi Mohalla, Gehrimandi, Jandiala, is booked in five different criminal cases, including that of Goindwal gang war. His two accomplices, Prabhjeet and Robinjeet, are suspects in many cases in the border zone. The SSP said raids were on to nab them.

The case

  • On December 4, four armed men took away a Hyundai Creta car from Nangali village at gunpoint.
