Amritsar, November 2

The students of Guru Nanak Dev University continued with their protest on the second day on Friday.

The protest is being organised under the banner of Guru Nanak Dev University Students Union, against the new parking policy of the university.

Thursday, the university authorities had invited the protesting students to have a dialogue on the issue of parking in the campus.

The students had been protesting against the new parking and commuting system introduced by the university.

A number of vehicles could be seen parked outside the varsity as students blocked entry at both gates of the varsity amidst police deployment.

The students are protesting against the new parking, commuting systems under which, cycles and e-rickshaws are to be used by students to commute after mandatory security checks at both gates. Students are required to park their vehicles at the paid parking stands.

“We are protesting against the new parking and commuting system introduced by the varsity. The parking parking is a costly affair,” said a protesting student.

The students raised slogans against the GNDU officials. Prof Sarbjot Behal, Dean, Students Welfare, GNDU, said, “On Thursday we held a meeting with protesting students. We are ready to consider their genuine demands. They should inform us after holding talks with other students.”
