A youth, identified as Sarabjit Singh, a resident of Guru Ki Wadali, lost his life due to drug overdose. The police have registered a culpable homicide case against a person who provided drugs to him. Jaspal Singh, investigating officer said the preliminary probe suggested that he died due to drugs.

Joga Singh, brother-in-law of the deceased, said Sarabjit’s friend Rashpal Singh had called him, so he, along with Sarabjit, came from Gujarat. Upon reaching the city bus stand, Sarabjit’s friend Munshi, alias Sheeru, of Guru Ki Wadali area phoned him. Later, Munshi also arrived at the bus stand following which Sarabjit, along with Munshi, went to toilet. Even after 15 minutes when they didn’t come out, Joga grew suspicious.

While travelling on the bus, they had befriended one Lovepreet Singh from Bangalore. Accompanied by Lovepreet, when Rashpal went to see them, he found Sarabjit was lying there. Munshi fled away while shouting that he had suffered a heart attack. He said Rashpal took him to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The investigating officer, Jaspal Singh, said a case under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC was registered against the accused for providing drugs to him. He said further investigation was under way.

The complainant has sought swift action and arrest of the accused. The victim’s family stated the accused should be brought to justice without delay.
