42 dead as bus falls into gorge in Kullu district of Himachal

KULLU: As many as 42 people were killed and several injured as a private bus (HP-65-7065) rolled down a gorge near Bheot Mor on Banjar-Gada Gushaini road in Banjar subdivision in Kullu district on Thursday.

As many as 42 people were killed and several injured as a private bus (HP-65-7065) rolled down a gorge near Bheot Mor on Banjar-Gada Gushaini road in Banjar subdivision in Kullu district on Thursday.

The bus was reportedly going from Aut towards Gada Gushaini.

Among the dead were a journalist of vernacular daily Mohan Lal and his 19-year-old daughter.

Banjar SDM MR Bhardwaj said rescue teams and ambulances were rushed to the spot and the victims were admitted in Banjar hospital.

He said that nine critically injured were shifted to Kullu hospital. He said free treatment was provided to the injured and interim relief was disbursed.

He said additional team of doctors was called from the Kullu hospital.

The SDM said the number of deceased could increase as condition of some of the injured was critical.

He said the cause of the incident was not ascertained yet and further investigation of the case was in progress.

Banjar MLA Surender Shourie expressed grief over the accident and expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased. He directed the authorities of district administration to provide all possible assistance to the injured.
