Set to release in the last weekend of this month will be Punjabi period romance-drama “Angrez” starring Amrinder Gill and Aditi Sharma. The film set in the 1940s will cash in on the charm of the bygone era, besides introducing another young star on the silver screen. Ammy Virk will be making his debut with “Angrez”. The 23-year-old singer is eagerly awaiting the release minus the jitters.
“Angrez was an amazing experience as it is different from the usual run-of-the-mill affair. It has a great script by Ambardeep, besides actors like Amrinder Gill and Binnu Dhillon on its star cast. The people will see an old world Punjab and not some foreign locales,” shared Virk.
He says, “I feel that “Angrez” will be able to break the cliché of romantic-comedy formula films in Punjabi and give more exposure to artistes.”
Ammy Virk, who got popular with hits like “Chandigarh dian kudian” and “Jattism”, says films were always what he craved for. He says, “I was always a movie buff, trying to emulate big stars, watch and learn from them. I know we have this trend in Punjabi films where most singers have turned actors and are not taken seriously. But look at Amrinder Gill, he has given hits like “Goreyan nu daffa karo” and now come up with a great concept like “Angrez”. I hope I get accepted by the audience.”
Virk who has a song “Tappe” along with Amrinder in the film, has also managed to create a comfort zone during the shooting of the film. He said, “I looked up to Amrinder paaji for any guidance in between the shots. The shooting schedule was sometimes gruelling as we had to shoot in far off rural locations to keep the authenticity of the period being depicted in the film. But I had a supportive team and got to learn on the sets.”
