The district administration on Wednesday concluded a 10-day personality development course for as many as 250 taxi drivers of the city. The programme was named ‘Respect of tourists — Identity of Punjab’.

Deputy Commissioner KS Sangha said, “Taxi drivers were informed about global trends and English communication skills at the workshop. They will be a human resource asset of the city and act as a partner in its development.”

Sangha said, “It’s high time to upgrade the information and communication skills of drivers as the city is receiving a record footfall of pilgrims and tourists. People from diverse linguistic and national backgrounds were coming and they need assistance. Apart from communication skills, they were also taught first-aid, etiquettes, traffic rules hospitality and Punjabi culture.”

He said the objective of the programme was to present a good image of the city before tourists so that they return with pleasant memories and share the same with their near and dear ones. Eventually, the tourism industry will flourish in the city, he added.

The DC also handed over certificates to them. He also announced to give them stickers to be pasted on taxis to advocate cleanliness in the city and prefer compostable bags over polythenes.
