Paying tribute to the Jallianwala Bagh Memorial’s 100th year of establishment in an interesting way, a team of 13 roller skaters from the city rolled down their way from the Wagah border to Jallianwala Bagh. The kids, aged between eight and 15 years, participated in this roller skating marathon, covering around 40 km non-stop. The team was led by Chirag Gupta, a national award winning roller skating champion.

Dedicating their feat to the memorial’s centenary celebrations and to give a message of drug-free Punjab, the kids travelled along with their coach Anju Gupta. “We had been planning this event for months. The kids had been getting training for the last two months. The idea is to send a positive message amidst the rampant drug abuse reports,” said Anju.

The young skaters took four hours to travel the distance. Chirag’s sister Mehak Gupta, multiple record holder, was also among the skaters.

Last year, skaters of the team were registered in the Limca Book of Records as well as World Book of Records for 24-hour skating.

The event was sponsored by Roller Skating Welfare Association.
