Attempt to loot Rs 9 lakh fails

AMRITSAR: Three unknown persons unsuccessfully tried to rob a cashier of Security India Private Ltd when he was going to a bank to deposit cash after collecting the same from clients here yesterday.

Three unknown persons unsuccessfully tried to rob a cashier of Security India Private Ltd when he was going to a bank to deposit cash after collecting the same from clients here yesterday. The bike-borne accused intercepted him near HK Clarke hotel and threw chilly powder in his eyes, but the cashier did not let them snatch the bag.

Nirmaljit Singh, the victim, told the police that the incident took place at around 4.30 pm yesterday. He had cash to the tune of Rs 9.57 lakh that was to be deposited with the Axis Bank at the court road. He said when he reached near HK Clark hotel, the accused stopped him and threw chilly powder in his eyes. When he raised the alarm, people started gathering, forcing the accused to flee.

According to Nirmaljit, he can easily identify the robbers in case they are presented before him. The Civil Lines police have registered a case under Sections 379-B, 511 and 34 of the IPC.

Such incidents are being reported on a large scale, leaving the residents fearful.
