The district health authorities have confirmed 28 new dengue cases here today. The total count of dengue patients in the district has reached 348. The authorities stated that the number of dengue patients being reported daily was decreasing with each passing day.

The health authorities have also issued an advisory to the parents of schoolchildren asking them to apply mosquito repellents on the exposed body parts of their children before sending them to school.

The authorities stated that as around 20 per cent of the total dengue patients constituted schoolchildren, the advisory must be taken seriously.

District epidemiologist Madan Mohan said as the dengue mosquito bit during day time, it was crucial that children were protected because they spend most of their day in school.

Dr Madan Mohan said even adults were required to cover their bodies fully to avoid mosquito bites. “Wearing full-sleeve shirts and socks can prevent dengue in many of the cases,” he said.

He added that health teams were conducting fogging in areas from where dengue patients were reported. “As a precaution, we conduct fogging in around 100 houses in the neigbourhood of the dengue patient assuming that dengue larva is present in the area,” he said, adding that people should take ample precautions to save themselves from the disease.

Meanwhile, the district administration celebrated Bhai Ghanayia Diwas by distributing fruits to patients at Jallainwala Bagh Martyrs Memorial Civil Hospital and Vidya Sagar Institute of Mental Health. Members of the Red Cross Society along with Additional Deputy Commissioner Tajinderpal Singh Sandhu also enquired about the health of patients admitted to these hospitals.
