A major fire broke out at a five-storey building at the Lawrence road on Tuesday afternoon. Goods worth lakhs of rupees were gutted by fire. The fire inflicted damages on a sweet shop, a computer centre and an immigration agency’s office.

Gautam Talwar, owner of the building, said it was power supply fluctuation which led to a short circuit. The power fluctuation further resulted into the fire. Talwar claimed that he had filed a complaint regarding fluctuation, but to no avail. He also alleged that firemen reached with a delay.

Meanwhile, firemen refuted the allegation. They said three fire engines reached the spot within a few minutes after receiving information. They doused the flames within half an hour.

According to information, most of the buildings at the Lawrence road don’t follow fire safety guidelines. The guidelines include several measures which are necessary to deal with any untoward situation.
