The CIA staff arrested two drug peddlers and seized 850 intoxicating tablets from them on Friday. They have been identified as Gurlal Singh and Tega Singh of Dhattal village.

Vavinder Mahajan, in charge of the local unit of the CIA staff, said the accused were caught near Miri Piri Academy at a checkpoint. They were produced in a court and taken on police remand for further interrogation. The police are trying to ascertain whom did they procure the contraband from.

He said preliminary investigation revealed that Tega Singh’s son Sonu was a notorious drug smuggler who also dealt in heroin smuggling from across the border. They used to sell heroin for Rs 1,600 to Rs 1,700 per gram. Sonu is absconding and raids are on to nab him.

While revealing his modus operendi, Mahajan said Sonu did not live in his residence as he stayed in the neighbouring houses of the village. His father Tega Singh used to make a WhatsApp call to him whenever a client came to look for him for procuring the contraband. Sonu used to deliver the same to the client.

Meanwhile, the CIA staff nabbed Ravi Kumar of Guru Nanak Pura area, Maninder Singh of Adarsh Nagar and Sewa Sigh of Ram Nagar Colony for allegedly smuggling liquor from Haryana. The liquor is much cheaper in Haryana. The police recovered 480 bottles of Haryana-made liquor being smuggled in an SUV. They were arrested from Chowk Bohri Sahib in Kot Khalsa area following a tip-off. They were booked under the Excise Act.

Mahajan said they were brought on police remand for further interrogation.
