Indian crafts across states make it to PITEX

AMRITSAR: The ongoing Punjab International Trade Expo (PITEX) has not brought only foreign exhibitors, but also a number of small-scale industries, crafts from north-eastern India.

The ongoing Punjab International Trade Expo (PITEX) has not brought only foreign exhibitors, but also a number of small-scale industries, crafts from north-eastern India. Home decors, utensils made of Manipuri stone along with jute dolls from Kolkata are some of the attracted items on display at the Ranjit Avenue.

The aim of involving traditional crafts from North eastern India as well as Jammu and Kashmir is to boast the economy of the state along with bringing something different for the trade expo. From Jammu and Kashmir, the traders have brought pashmina shawls, traditional embroidery kurtas and others.

From north-eastern India, there is a range of material to pick and choose from. The section has three stalls, displaying utensils, clothing material, and home furniture consisting of tables, lamps, hangings, partition and pen stands.

In special utensils, there are black utensils made of the crushed Manipuri stone. These cups, plates, kettles, bowls can not only be served but also one can cook in these. A trader at the stall said, “These items will not break. They are made of our special stone. We have also brought in traditional dress material, hand fans, and mirror for the same.”

“I am definitely buying this one as I have kids back home who keep on breaking cups, this is such a relief.”said Rama, a housewife. Lucknavi kurta, dress material from Jharkhand are also adding layers to states of India.
