The Congress on Monday announced two candidates for the civic body bypolls in Ward nos. 50 and 71. The election for these seats will be held on June 21.

Rajbir Kaur, widow of Gurdeep Singh, alias Gurdeep Bhalwan, a sitting Congress councillor who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on June 2, 2018, on Monday filed her papers.

The ward no. 50 consists majority of the walled city areas like Telephone Exchange, Ram Bagh, Kot Atma Singh, Shastri Market and other adjoining areas.

The Ward No. 71 got vacated after sitting councillor Paramjit Kaur of Akali Dal got expired.

Congress has fielded Gurmeet Kaur wife of Lakhwinder Singh from the reserved seat. The ward comprises localities of Annagarh, Fatahpur and other areas.

District Congress Committee (Urban) president Jatinder Sonia said her party would campaign to inform voters that development works worth Rs 50 lakh was undergoing in each ward. Besides, the party was committed to fulfill all promises made in the manifesto.
