Office and field staff of Punjab State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited (Punsup), a procurement agency, staged a protest against district manager (DM) of the agency alleging graft charges here today.

The employees went on a strike against Sapna Bhatia, district manager, and raised slogans against her. Office-bearers of the Punsup Employees Union demanded her transfer from the district.

Kailash Chandar, president of union, alleged that the DM harasses the staff and demands bribe from the field employees.

Union leaders said they had lodged a complaint with the head office about the ‘wrongdoings’ of the GM but to no avail.

“If the Punsup management not transfers Sapna Bhatia to other district, we will go on an indefinite strike”, said union’s state president.

When contacted to Sapna Bhatia, she said “I am the first women district manager and joined a few months ago. Some corrupt inspectorates and field staff are involved in wrong practices for the past many years. I have asked them to follow the rules and regulations set by the head office. Their illegal sources of income have curbed. Now, they want my transfer.”

“A few persons provoked the office staff against me in the name of unity. I challenged them to conduct any kind of inquiry. They should be ready for the inquiry for their wrongdoings. I have apprised the senior officials of all issues”.
