Amritsar, June 21

Even rain failed to dampen the spirit of residents who came in large numbers to take part in various yoga camps organised to celebrate the third International Yoga Day today.

The Union Minister for Science and Technology and Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Dr Harsh Vardhan, also took part in the celebrations and performed yoga along with others at Gandhi Ground early this morning.

The yoga session, conducted by the Bharatiya Yog Sansthan, saw the presence of around 100 persons from all walks of life, including former Local Bodies minister Anil Joshi, mayor Bakshi Ram Arora, Baldev Raj Chawla and BJP leader Rajinder Mohan Chhina, among others.

An array of asanas was performed at the yoga camps in which people from all walks of life took part.

Speaking at the event, Dr Harsh Vardhan said, “I have come to the holy city to take part in the celebrations of International Yoga Day. One should cultivate the habit of performing yoga daily. It should not be a one- day affair. I am sure the countrymen will do so and take yoga to the next level. As a doctor, I would like to tell people to understand the importance of a healthy life as well as mind.”

Talking about the urgent need to save environment, he said, “I would like to request my countrymen to save the environment for their our generations.”

The yoga camps were held at various places such as the Rambagh gardens, Ranjit Avenue, Anant Park, even though it kept raining.

The rain could not break the spirit of the residents, who continued to perform yoga, inspite of the rain. Educational institutes also observed the day by organising yoga camps, which were held at the local BBK DAV College for Women and Guru Nanak Dev University to help the students as well as the faculty to cultivate the habit of performing Yoga.

A number of students and teachers of the college took part enthusiastically in the yoga session.

The National Cadets Corps held a camp at DAV International School. Besides, yoga camps were held by the authorities of Verka Milk Plant, the Border Security Force at Khasa.
