The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is turning its focus on skill-based programmes introduced at middle and high school level. A workshop was conducted at DPS Amritsar for the same. RP Singh, Joint Secretary, CBSE, and GC Sharma, advisor education, NSE, were the resource persons.

Principals of more than 66 schools across the city attended the workshop. They emphasised on the importance of these skill-based subjects like retail, information technology, beauty and wellness etc at secondary and senior secondary school curriculum.

“The CBSE is introducing artificial intelligence as an optional sixth subject at Class IX from the 2019-2020 session. To enhance the multidisciplinary approach in teaching learning and also to sensitise new generation, it was decided that schools may start AI “inspire module” of 12 hours at Class VIII itself,” the senior board official said.

“The board will provide necessary support and guidance towards training and capacity building of teachers and other aspects for the successful implementation of skill subjects from time to time,” the official added. — TNS
