The Tarn Taran Municipal Council has failed to come up to the people’s expectations. The police checkpost at Chaunk Bohri is now being used for waste dumping. The garbage is emanating foul smell and the residents are shedding tears of pain. Darshan Lal, Banarsri Das, Romi, Nirmal Singh, Gagagdeep Singh, Biloo and others said earlier the police used checkpost to keep an eye on anti-social elements but now it had filled to its capacity with the garbage and official of the Municipal Council were not ready to lift the dumping waste.

The residents said that their repeated requests to the authorities had failed to evince response. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched by the Prime Minister to make the country clean. The desilting work of the sewerage which was usually done before the rainy season has been started just a few days back. An employee of the Sewerage Department said that no one told them to do it before the rainy season. Heaps of de-silted waste remains unlifted alongside the roads for days. Residents near Gali police post, near Bugha road have been complaining for years that the choked sewerage has made their life miserable as the street often remain inundated with sewage throughout the year. More than half of the town’s population gets contaminated water supply. The Municipal Council is helpless to tackle the menace of stray animals. Cow dung can be seen at every nook and corner of the town.

The employees complained that they were not paid their salaries for months. As a result of poor tax collection, the development works have come to a standstill.
