As a part of his two-day visit to the holy city, UK’s West Midland’s Mayor Andy Street, along with other delegates, paid obeisance at the Golden Temple and took part in a CII meeting here on Sunday.
During the interactive session, organised by the CII Amritsar Zonal Council, he apprised the business community of the city of the business opportunities in West Midland. He was accompanied by Jason Wouhra, MD of East End Foods; Prof David Mullins of Warwick University; and Meera Sonecha, Policy Adviser to the Mayor of the West Midland.
Andy said there was a tremendous scope in varied fields, including, education, textile, light engineering and other Infrastructural projects. “There is obviously a great scope for collaboration. I am looking forward to working on a few projects to strengthen our business ties further. The West Midlands is truly a global region and will continue to be the export and FDI capital outside of London,” he said.
CII Amritsar Zonal Council chairman Ajay Khanna said the interaction was a great opportunity for the CII Amritsar members to learn on investment priorities of the West Midlands.
CII Amritsar Zonal Council vice-chairman Kanav Aggarwal said the interaction provided a platform for discussion and deliberation for forging ties between Amritsar and West Midland in prospective business fields.
He elaborated that the CII, in its endeavour of creating opportunities for Indian businesses to grow, has been stepping up its engagement with the world on a wide range of issues that it identifies as being critical for globalisation of Indian industry and its integration into the world economy.
Seeks collaboration with GNDU
Amritsar: Andy Street, Mayor of West Midlands, UK, visited the Centre for Studies on Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), on Sunday. He met faculty members, looked around the centre, enquired about the working of the centre, research carried out so far, number of students and the activities taken up during the course. He appreciated the centre, especially for the relics it has displayed.
He sought collaboration on Sikh Studies. Street held a meeting with Amarjit Singh, Director, Centre for Studies on Sri Guru Granth Sahib. He showed his keenness to deliberate upon the collaboration between the GNDU and the Centre for Sikh and Panjabi Studies at the University of Wolverhampton.
Dr Amarjit Singh said, “We had an hour long meeting with him. Both of us are willing for the promotion of Punjabi language among Sikh youth in United Kingdom.
Street also assured of linkages on the occasion of 550 years of the Sikh faith in November 2019, Singh added. TNS
