Amritsar, June 26

Volunteers of the Voice of Amritsar today along with the traffic police managed traffic at key congested locations in the city.

The volunteers were seen easing out traffic and interacting with commuters at Novelty Chowk.

They also apprised the commuters of traffic rules. The volunteers also gifted souvenirs to those who abide by the rules.

The voluntary activity was carried out by 40 to 50 volunteers of the NGO.

“Traffic mismanagement is one of the biggest causes of air pollution and inconvenience in the city. Several key locations, including SSSS Chowk, Khalsa College stretch, Putlighar area, stretch outside Gurdwara Shaheedan Sahib and Fathegarh Churian bypass road, need constant police monitoring as most of the violations take place in these areas,” said Seenu Arora, a volunteers.

“Despite the traffic police invited the volunteers to act as traffic marshals, the situation on the city roads remained pathetic. So, we decided to make people aware and engage them in active participation in maintaining traffic rules,” added Seenu.

A team of volunteers also met the Commissioner of the traffic police to discuss as to how traffic can be managed with the help of the police at key locations.

Meanwhile, the volunteers carried out a two-hour activity at Novelty Chowk.
