Amritsar, June 17

The Beas police have booked a woman travel agent for fraud and human trafficking.

The accused has been identified as Ranjit Kaur of Baba Sawan Singh Nagar, Beas. She runs a travel agency — Ranjit Immigration and Consultant Private Limited.

Victims Baljinder Singh and Gurwinder Singh, both residents of Udho Nangal village, stated to the police that they had approached the accused who assured them jobs in Malaysia. She alleged she took Rs 95,000 from each of them.

They alleged when they reached Malaysia, they did not find any job or any other facility as mentioned in an agreement. After facing a lot of hassles, they had to return.

Finally, they lodged a complaint with the rural police in January 2018 following which an inquiry was conducted by an SP-rank official. She was indicted in the case.

After taking the legal opinion from the district attorney and approval of SSP Amritsar (rural), a case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code and 13 of the Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Act, 2012 was registered against her.

The accused is yet to be arrested.
