Bathinda, May 21

A 12-day special capacity-building programme for social science faculty members concluded at Central University of Punjab here on Tuesday.

The event was organised jointly by the department of economic studies of the university and the ICSSR. The event began on May 10 and concluded on Tuesday.

The Vice-Chancellor, RK Kohli, presided over the inaugural and valedictory sessions.

The chief guest of the valedictory session was prof PK Chaubey, former director, IMS, Lucknow, and former economics professor, IIPA (Indian Institute of Public Administration was established), New Delhi. A total of 23 social science faculty members from 11 states and two union territories participated in the programme.

PK Mishra, associate dean, school of social sciences, said, “The objective of the programme is to broaden the research horizon of social science faculty members. During the programme, 33 guest lectures were delivered on subjects varying from economics, commerce, management, education, geography, sociology, political science and law.”

Professor Chaubey said, “The basic approach, philosophy and ethics need to be followed to conduct quality research within the social science discipline.”

Prof P Ramarao, dean, academic affairs, said that the capacity building programme would be helpful for the participants in research and their understanding of the discipline.
