Residents and shopkeepers of the Partap Nagar area are unhappy due to rainwater accumulation on roads. They said in the absence of a proper drainage system in the area, rainwater could not be cleared even two days after showers.

The residents said as the sewerage system collapsed, dirty water accumulated on roads, causing inconvenience to them.

Now the entire area is emanating a foul smell, making it difficult for residents to move around. A majority of the shopkeepers have kept their shops closed for the past two days.

Navneet Singh, a shopkeeper, said, “The entire area is stinking profusely. I have shut my shop for past two days as no customer turned up after Tuesday. It is a direct invitation to vector-borne diseases as the area has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Schoolchildren find it difficult to pass by the area.”

Another resident Gurmeet Singh, said, “Accumulation of rainwater during the monsoon season has become a common site on city roads. The administration announced a plan to tackle the problem of waterlogging effectively in the city. But all plans and claims remain on papers.”— TNS
