In order to give child-friendly look to the anganwari centres of Bathinda district and motivate more children to visit these centres, work on enlivening of walls of the anganwari centres in the district has begun. Bathinda Deputy Commissioner Praneet Singh said under the project, work had already been completed at Gurthari village in Sangat block.

The alphabets of Punjabi and English, names of colours, names of days, counting from 1 to 100 adorn the walls of the Gurthari anganwari centre. All the rooms have low black boards painted on them so that the children can easily scribble and absorb learning. To make this anganwari centre children-friendly the walls have been given a new look with Rs 3.99 lakh spent on material and Rs 1 lakh spent on the labour. Labour work has been done under the Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Employee Guarantee Act from the villagers itself. In a way, the project has given children a colorful place to play at and given income to the villagers through MNREGA.

ADC (D) Sakshi Sawhney said the anganwari centre was built on 77.44 sq yards of area. Such decked-up centres and schools enable children to study more making learning a fun for them.

BDPO Sangat Kavita Garg said a room of Faridkot Kotli village too was being prepared in the same manner. She said more anganwari centres would be given such look.
