Bathinda, September 21

One person was injured after a stray animal suddenly came in front of his motorcycle on the ITI flyover on Thursday night. After collision with the animal, the person fell on the road and fractured his hand.

After getting the information, the local NGO Naujawan Welfare Society’s ambulance reached the spot and the injured was taken to the Civil Hospital. The injured has been identified as Nirav Kumar, a resident of Bhagu road in the city. Besides, his five teeth were broken in the incident.

It is pertinent to mention that the district administration and the Municipal Corporation of Bathinda (MCB) have failed to address the problem.

Stray cattle roaming freely on roads have become a serious problem. The situation turns worse at night when it becomes difficult for the drivers to spot stray animals due to darkness. Stray animals have claimed many precious lives and left many seriously injured.

The situation is now getting serious due to the increasing number of cattle. Herds of cows can be spotted on various roads and interiors of the city.

The MCB is the first in the state to levy cow cess with a view to checking the problem of stray cattle. The root cause of the problem is unplanned dairies in and around the city. The owners, after milking cattle, let them loose so that they can graze outside. Even non-milch cattle are also let loose to save on their feed.

Even garbage dumps along the choe have aggravated the problem with cattle flocking to these places in search of food.
