Cops accused of inaction in attempt to rape case; couple to hold protest

BATHINDA: A couple of Beant Nagar today accused the Civil Lines police for not arresting an accused booked for attempting to rape the woman and assaulting her.

A couple of Beant Nagar today accused the Civil Lines police for not arresting an accused booked for attempting to rape the woman and assaulting her.

They threatened to stage a protest outside the door of the SSP office if the police didn’t arrest the accused soon.

Raju Singh, in the presence of his wife, today addressed mediapersons. He said Davinder Singh, a resident of Dhobiana Basti, was booked on November 17 under Sections 452, 354, 323 and 511 of the IPC, but still after 25 days, the police didn’t arrest the accused.

Raju Singh alleged that the accused threatening them to withdraw the complaint. He alleged that the police were protecting accused Devinder Singh as he was powerful.

He also alleged that before this, the accused started blackmailing his wife with some pictures.

On November 1, the accused entered his house and attempted to rape his wife but when she opposed, the accused hit her with the rear of a pistol, he alleged.

She suffered major injuries near her ears and was unable to hear properly, he said.

She lodged a complaint at the police station the same day, but the police didn’t take any action, he added.

A case was registered after 16 days. Raju said, “We left our house from Beant Nagar due to fear of Devinder Singh. Now, we are living in the Ajit road area.”

Kuldeep Singh Bhullar, SHO of the Civil Lines police station, said the police were conducting raids to arrest the accused and he would be held soon.
