Lack of resources a hurdle in solving snatching cases

The Bathinda police are facing the lack of resources and manpower, leading to their failure to solve cases of snatching and robbery without delay.

With crimes such as snatching and robbery taking place frequently, the non-availability of an adequate number of CCTV cameras is also making things difficult for the police to nab miscreants.

As per data, the police succeeded in cracking only 49 theft cases out of the 217 registered last year. Out of the 164 cases of burglary, the police were able to solve only 57 cases.

Similarly, the police have been able to resolve only three robbery cases out of the six cases reported last year. Out of the 86 cases of snatching, the police succeeded in cracking 40 cases only last year.

Even in some case despite having CCTV footage, the police have failed to crack the case as a few days ago only a snatching incident was reported near petrol pump in which a bag containing Rs10 lakh was snatched from the company employee who was taking cash from the pump at Rampura and the entire incident was captured in the CCTV installed nearby. Despite this, the police failed to trace the case till date.

It is witnessed that victims continue running from pillar to post to get this case resolved, but after sometime he also stops visiting the police and file kept gathering dust in the record room.

Due to rising incidents of theft and snatching in the district, there has been a feeling of fear and panic among businessmen as the police have failed to solve many of these incidents till date.

Bathinda SSP Dr Nanak Singh said, “We have already written to the state headquarters to provide us more vehicles, so that we can increase patrolling and the presence of policemen in the district”.

Moreover, CCTV cameras have already been installed at major junctions in the city, but the police have planned to installed more cameras in the district to nab the accused immediately after any crime is reported in the district.
