The four-day employment fair held here at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), which ended on Monday, brought to the fore a new trend. During the fair, local hospitals, hotels and showrooms were seen offering nursing, security, marketing and housekeeping jobs to the youth. This has led to a wider range of jobs being offered at the fair, organised by the state government under ‘Ghar-Ghar Rozgar’ scheme.

In this fair, Adesh Hospital had listed 107 posts of nursing staff, lab technician, assistant electrician, refrigeration machine STP/ETP operator, driver and plumber.

Global Healthcare was offering seven vacancies of nursing staff and PRO, marketing. Similarly, Pulse Hospital was offering seven vacancies of lab technician, pathology lab technician, pharmacist, security guard and nursing staff at a salary of Rs 10,000.

Even Pragma Hospital, Delhi Heart Multispecialty Hospital and Jindal Heart Hospital offered various vacancies in nursing at the fair.

Apart from this, hotels and eating joints were also offering jobs to the youth. Hotel City Continental VRC offered eight posts of housekeepers, supervisors, stewards and housemen with one-year experience at a pay of Rs 12-14,000.

Eating joint Subway also offered two vacancies, sandwich artist and shift in charge, at a salary of Rs 8,500. Brewmaster and Brew Bukhara offered jobs in housekeeping, office assistant, telly caller and for other works as well.

City showrooms did not lag behind as they also offered jobs. Best Price (Walmart) offered the job of floor associate while Big Bazar offered the job of team member here. A newly opened showroom, Platinum, offered the jobs of security guard, store manager, sweeper, sale staff and others to the youth at the job fair.

However, youth claimed that the government should also bring some bigger companies to the fair which can hire well-qualified youth.

AAP state spokesperson Neel Garg alleged that the state government was fooling people by making tall claims of providing jobs at such events. Earlier as well, colleges use to organise recruitment drives, but the government is taking credit by putting its name on it, he added.
