To mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, a city-based NGO has started a three-week-long drive to distribute carry bags made of clothes in different parts of the city. According to NGO members, the drive is aimed at making the city plastic-free.

Kewal Krishan Garg, president and founder member of Goodwill Society, said, “There could not have been a better tribute to Guru Nanak Dev Ji than doing a bit to protect the environment from pollution. We decided to do a bit on our own and came up with the idea of distributing carry bags made of clothes in different markets in the city. We started the drive on Tuesday in the market near Fire Brigade Chowk by distributing 30 bags on the first day.”

“We just want to spread awareness among city residents that they must avoid using plastic and its products in their daily life to keep the city pollution or plastic-free. We will continue to distribute these carry bags (30 bags daily) in the coming three weeks on a daily basis,” he added.
