Tall claims of the state government of providing good roads seem to have fallen flat as deep potholes on the main Bathinda–Mansa road from the city to the railway under brigade (RoB) have become a reason for frequent road accidents.

The road has developed huge potholes and the authorities concerned have failed to initiate the patchwork on it.

The road connects Bathinda with other major cities of the state and a large number of people commute on it.

City residents lament that it is risky to commute on the road due to potholes, resulting in increase in accidents.

Today, a person was injured in a collision between a car and a motorcycle.

The situation becomes worse at night when cyclists and motorcyclists, unaware of these potholes, fall into these and lose their balance.

Vijay, a city resident, said, “The condition of the road is very bad and a number of accidents have taken place on a particular spot due to a pothole. Despite repeated complainants, no action has been initiated by the authorities concerned.”

Another resident Jaspal Singh said, “Leaders of political parties repeatedly claim to have provided world-class infrastructure, but at the grassroots level, the people are deprived of basic amenities. Leaders and bureaucrats commute on the road but no one has initiated to get it repaired.”
