Bathinda, January 18

Resident of Multania road area today staged a protest against a contractor for allegedly laying substandard sewer pipes. They also lodge a complaint with officials of the Sewerage Board. After receiving the complaint, officials reached the spot ordered a probe into the matter and got the work stopped.

Workers hired by the contractor of Triveni Company were laying the sewer pipes against the norms at Street No. 14 of the Multania road area, alleged a resident. At the time when the work was going on, the contractor and officials of the company were not present at the site.

Residents said even bricks to be laid in between the pipes were also of substandard quality.

Ashwani Kumar, XEN, Sewerage Board, instructed the officials to reach the site and to look into the matter. Rajiv Kumar, senior manager, Triveni Company, said a team of company’s engineers had been asked to verify the allegations.

He said he would be able to comment after getting the report.
