A seminar on 'Women in fiction' was organised by the Centre for Languages and Comparative Literature (CLCL) of the Central University of Punjab here today.

Prof Rohini Aggarwal, Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, was the key speaker at the seminar.

Dr. Rajinder Kumar, Assistant Professor, CLCL, said Rohini Aggarwal was very well known for her works on various women-related issues. He said the key speaker is also known for raising her voice for women in society.

Professor Aggarwal threw light on the role of literature in representing and bringing out the psychology of society regarding different issues. She said to know about the place of women in literature and fiction, first of all it becomes very important to know about the structure of society.

She said it was very important to completely understand the position of women in the literary field and for doing so, it was very important to critique the patriarchal Indian society.

She further added that feminists were not against men and it was patriarchy only which has been agonising both males and females in the society.

The key speaker also strongly condemned the role of a family where the discrimination against women starts. It is important to have a new and revolutionised thinking and modern viewpoint to make a difference in society, she added.
