Bathinda, December 6

Members of the Punjab Subordinate Services Federation staged a protest at Children’s Park on Friday and raised slogans against the state government, demanding implementation of recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission, release of salaries and outstanding DA instalments, among other demands.

Employees from various government departments participated in the protest. To express their anger, the protesters burnt an effigy of the state government. Union president Hansraj said: “The state government has failed to provide salaries to its workers and employees. Our demand is that the state Treasury Department must release pending salary of employees. DA instalments must also be cleared on a priority basis. The report of Sixth Pay Commission must be implemented and its benefits must be transferred to employees at the earliest.”

The protesters alleged that they had held demonstration on numerous occasions in the past but the state government had failed to fulfil their demands. They said if the apathetic stance of the government continued, they would be left with no alternative than to intensify their stir. If need be, they would give a call for a state-wide protest in the coming months, they said. Representatives from various blocks and tehsils of the district participated in the protest.
