24-yr-old gets 7-year jail for raping minor

Chandigarh, August 21

A local court on Tuesday sentenced a 24-year-old youth to seven-year imprisonment for raping a minor girl. Amrik Singh, a resident of Dadu Majra, was also directed to pay a fine of Rs 75,000 by the court of which Rs 70,000 would go to the victim. Amrik was found guilty under Section 376 of the IPC and Section 4 of the POCSO Act.

In December 2017, the victim’s grandmother had approached the police with a complaint. She had informed the police that the victim resided at her place and on the night of December 14, she had gone missing. While the family kept looking for the girl, she was raped in the neighbourhood by Amrik. 

When the victim returned home, she said she had been raped by Amrik, who took her to his room forcibly. — TNS
