31-year-old patient jumps to death from fifth floor of GMCH-32

CHANDIGARH: A 31-year-old man allegedly committed suicide after jumping from the fifth floor of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, this morning.

Chandigarh, June 30

A 31-year-old man allegedly committed suicide after jumping from the fifth floor of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, this morning. The victim was a psychiatric patient.

According to the police, Jatinder Singh, a resident of Sector 46, had come to the psychiatry OPD at B Block of the hospital when he jumped off the building. The victim was depressed and was taking treatment from the hospital. Jatinder’s father, Dan Singh, recently retired as a head constable from the Chandigarh Police. The incident took place at around 11 am. Police sources said the victim died on the spot.

The police were informed about the incident who arrived at the spot. The autopsy was conducted and the body was handed over to the family members. The police have initiated inquest proceedings into the incident.
