44,492 vehicles checked in run-up to I-Day

CHANDIGARH: In view of Independence Day, PCR staff of the Chandigarh police launched a checking drive in the city on July 1. A total of 44,492 vehicles were checked by the cops till date during the drive. The PCR staff also identified 549 dark spots in the city.

Chandigarh, August 11

In view of Independence Day, PCR staff of the Chandigarh police launched a checking drive in the city on July 1.

A total of 44,492 vehicles were checked by the cops till date during the drive. The PCR staff also identified 549 dark spots in the city.

Police officials said the PCR unit had conducted a special drive to check suspicious vehicles and verify the antecedents of drivers. During the drive, a total of 51,580 persons were verified at the spot and 41 suspected persons were verified by the staff of different police stations.

The police claimed that during the drive, 46 unclaimed vehicles and three stolen vehicles were recovered.

During the drive that continued for around one and a half months, the PCR staff also issued 621 traffic challans and impounded 51 vehicles.

The PCR unit also found three missing children during the special drive and also provided pick-and-drop facility to four women.
