Patiala, April 21

Member of Parliament from Patiala Dharamvira Gandhi on Saturday decried the alleged efforts of the state government to silently shift the burden of debt onto the people of Punjab.

Quoting Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal that by March 31, 2018, the debt on the state of Punjab would be reduced to Rs 1.95 lakh crore, but by the end of this fiscal year it would grow to 2.11 lakh crore, Gandhi claimed that the debt would be 40.82 per cent of the gross state Domestic Product (GDP). “In the year 2018-19 the debt servicing by the state of Punjab shall touch Rs 24,870 crore,” he said.
