Chandigarh, October 20

Volunteers of Neuroscience Research Lab, PGI, and Annals Indian Academy of Neurosciences have won Bharat Nirman Award at a science event organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology and Environment and Vigyan Bharti at the recently concluded third India International Science Festival, Chennai.

This award was given in the category ‘Behavioral Change’ under the ‘Ideas for Nav Bharat Nirman’ held at the National Institute of Ocean Technology on October 15, coinciding with the birthday of Late President Abdul Kalam. There were 217 entries from among scientific institutions in the country and 21 teams were invited to make presentations in front of four-member jury. The jury consisting of eminent scientists were impressed to notice the regularity of PGI’s faculty and students in spearheading the Swachh Bharat programme as desired by the Prime Minister in his speech of October 2, 2014.

The jury appreciated that the team, led by Prof Akshay Anand, Editor of Annals of Neurosciences and Prof of Neuroscience at the PGI, continued to be a role model for completing three years of uninterrupted voluntary litter pick up campaign, impacting the defecation in the front gate, sensitising the institute’s sanitation staff and cultivating nationalistic spirit among research scholars. — TNS
